Asylum Seekers in New Mexico

New Mexico is home to many individuals who have come seeking protection from violence and persecution in their home countries. Legal issues for individuals who came to the US seeking asylum can be complex and finding legal support is crucial for success.

Unfortunately, Santa Fe Dreamers Project does not at this time offer direct legal representation for individuals in their applications for asylum or asylum hearings in Immigration Court. Our asylum clinic, SAFE PLACE, closed in 2021 due to pandemic-related funding losses.

Many individuals who come to the US seeking asylum are eligible for other forms of immigration relief such as humanitarian visas or options for immigrant youth. If you are in deportation proceedings but want to explore options other than asylum, please schedule a consultation with our legal team. We are here to help you explore all of your legal options.

For information about the asylum process and peer support, we recommend the Asylum Seekers Assistance Project (ASAP), which provides a huge digital library of resources, as well as a digital community for individuals applying for asylum.

Our LGBTQ+ Asylum Project is focused on providing services to members of the LGBTQ+ community and is currently in the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez border zone - click here to learn more about this project.
